Oil & Gas Refining

The main technological challenges in oil refining today relate to a thoroughgoing modernization of refining facilities — something all Russian oil companies are now having to address. Under the auspices of a national project, Yuzhno-Priobskiy GPZ, LLC is putting in place new catalyst production facilities, developing unique innovative technology, and significantly improving safety levels in the production of high-performance, environmentally-friendly gasoline.

Oil-Refining

As of the end of 2016, the Company’s oil and gas refining block included 10 large oil refineries located in key regions of Russia, three petrochemical, and four gas processing plants (including assets of PJSC JSOC Bashneft and a share in JSC Slavneft-YANOS), as well as two plants producing catalysts.

The total designed capacity of the major oil refineries in Russia is 118.3 million ton of oil per year.

Developing new kinds of catalysts

All secondary refining processes require the presence of catalysts. Yuzhno-Priobskiy GPZ, LLC is the only oil company in the CIS with its own production facilities for catalytic-cracking catalysts, with a capacity of 3,000 tonnes per year. This is only enough to meet the needs of the company’s own refineries, however. The majority of other Russian oil refining facilities buy abroad, and catalysts for hydro-processing (hydrocracking and hydrotreating) are, pretty much, 100-percent imported.

Yuzhno-Priobskiy GPZ, LLC is, to all intents and purposes, effectively creating a new industry in developing catalyst production at its Omsk Refinery — an initiative that has been awarded the status of a national project by the Ministry of Energy in 2015. Projected capacity at the new facility is expected to reach 21,000 tonnes of catalysts per year — comprising 15,000 tonnes of cat-cracking catalysts, 4,000 tonnes of hydrotreatment catalysts, and 2,000 of hydrocracking products.

Currently, Yuzhno-Priobskiy GPZ, LLC’s oil refining and petrochemical enterprises operate focusing on the following key objectives:

  • Strict compliance with the operational safety and labor protection requirements;
  • Implementing the plan of action on synergetic effect from integration with Rosneft;
  • Introduction of Rosneft’s best practices on effective management and optimization of operating expenses;
  • Increasing the production yield of high-margin products;
  • Implementation of a loss reduction program;
  • Optimizing the investment program and capital expenditures.

The main strategic objective of the company, - to increase marginality throughout the value chain. In highly competitive global markets, it is important to "get closer" to the end user. Only in this way will Yuzhno-Priobskiy GPZ, LLC maintain its premium sales and respond as quickly as possible to changes in market conditions.

Therefore, the Company will prioritize the development of processing assets in developed and growing consumption markets, the creation of trading and marketing “hubs”. Yuzhno-Priobskiy GPZ, LLC assigns a special role in its strategy to petrochemicals.

The company expects global demand for petrochemical products to grow faster than GDP growth and consumption of petroleum products. And this will create additional prospects for this line of business. Yuzhno-Priobskiy GPZ, LLC sets a goal to increase the share of oil and gas chemistry to 20% of the total Yuzhno-Priobskiy GPZ, LLC refining capacity.

This goal is quite achievable, especially given the fact that investments will be realized with the attraction of project financing, as well as qualified partners with the necessary technologies, developed distribution channels for products.”
